Jimmy Lange Wins Comeback Victory Impressively over Grover Wiley at Patriot Center;

“Tattoo” Tom Mitchell Loses Bout, But Earns Respect in Fight for Cancer;Promotion to Donate $6,000 to Growing Hope Organization.

FAIRFAX, VA (November 2, 2008) - In the fight of the night, popular Virginia middleweight contender Jimmy Lange (29-3-2, 20 KOs) scored an impressive, unanimous victory over Grover Wiley (30-12-1, 14 KOs) at the Patriot Center Saturday night in his first action since May 2007. A confident Lange displayed a strong jab and landed effective body shots throughout the ten-round battle, including a fourth-round knock down, to defeat the Midwest veteran who displayed toughness and a no-quit attitude. Jimmy Lange

Looking fully-recovered from a rotator cuff injury suffered during the first round of his WBC Continental America’s championship title bout held 17 months ago, Lange showed little ring ‘rust’ and provided his loyal and spirited hometown fans their money’s worth with the strong performance.

Despite losing his professional debut to Yieta Johnson (1-2, 1 KO) via second-round TKO, “Tattoo” Tom Mitchell (0-1) earned the respect and admiration of Tattoo Tomthe crowd for his gutsy performance and heartwarming story of fighting to raise awareness of childhood cancer.  Mitchell entered the ring led by his 18-year old daughter, Shayla, who was diagnosed with cancer last summer, to thunderous applause.  Later she joined her Dad and promoter Jackie Kallen in announcing that $6,000 was raised from the evening which would be donated to Growing Hope, a local non-profit organization that provides outreach and family support programs for children battling cancer.  Mitchell donated his purse, while the promotion agreed to donate one-third all of the revenue generated from Mitchell’s personal ticket sales to the cause.

In the evening’s other bouts, Jimmy LeBlanc (12-15-4, 3 KOs) KO’d Luther Smith (22-8-2, 12 KOs) in the first round, Tracy Brewer (3-0, 1 KOs) defeated Calvin Aughty (0-3) in a competitive, four-round slugfest, and Curtis Smith (9-4, 4 KOs) outpointed Carlos Cisneros (9-16-1, 6 KOs) for a win.

Jimmy Lange to Face Grover Wiley November 1

Jaime Palma vs. Dean White, Fontaine Cabell vs. Chad Greenleaf Added to Patriot Center Boxing Card

Fairfax, VA — Ice Promotions announced today that Jimmy Lange will face Grove Wiley in the 10-round Main Event of the live, professional boxing card scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Patriot Center.  The event marks the Great Falls, Va. junior middleweight’s first action since suffering a shoulder injury in May 2007 that has caused a 17-month layoff and led to Lange relinquishing his WBC Continental Americas 154-pound title.

Wiley, a tough, veteran fighter with a record of 30-11-1 (14 KOs), is best known for beating legendary world-champion Julio Cesar Chavez in a fifth-round TKO, sending the Mexican superstar into retirement.  While the Omaha, Neb.-native has lost six of last seven fights, he has faced stiff competition, including Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (who holds Lange’s former championship belt).  In fact, the combined record of Wiley’s last seven opponents is an impressive 249-13-4.

A rematch between two popular Beltway boxers has just been added to the card as junior welterweights Jaime “The Punisher” Palma (13-12-1, 6 KOs) of Alexandria, Va., and Smithburg, Md.’s Dean “Pittbull” White (14-9-1, 3 KOs) will square off in an eight-round contest.  Palma, who scored a unanimous eight-round decision over White one year ago, looks to get back on the winning track having lost his last two bouts after previously reeling off six straight including winning the Virginia Light Welterweight title.

White makes his third trip to the Patriot Center, where he has enjoyed mixed results. The gritty southpaw earned an impressive win over Dorin Spivey in December 2006 followed by TKO loss to highly-regarded Damien Fuller in May 2007.

Two of Lange’s previous opponents will face one another when Fontaine Cabell (22-8-2, 17 KOs) battles Chad Greenleaf (10-10-1, 4 KOs) in an eight-round bout. Cabell earned the respect of area fans for his valiant effort and rugged performances against hometown favorite Lange in their two championship bouts held at the Patriot Center in December 2006 and in May 2007.  In his last fight, the Orlando, Fla.-based Cabell fell to Freddy Muriel, a participant on season two of The Contender series.

Greenleaf, a southpaw from Parkersburg, W.Va., lost to undefeated Beltway boxer Jesse “The Beast” Nicklow in his last contest.  He went the distance but lost a decision to Lange back in May 2003.

A native of Arlington, Va. and a Bishop O’Connell High School graduate, Lange has headlined all five previous professional boxing events at the Patriot Center on the George Mason University campus, including the sport’s debut at the arena on September 17, 2005.  The junior middleweight drew national attention as a participant on the first season (2005) of the NBC boxing reality program, The Contender, and possesses an impressive 28-3-2 (20 KOs) record.

Ticket, priced at $30, $50, $75, $100, $150, $200, $300 and $500 (VIP Ringside), are on sale and  can be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling phone charge at (703) 573-SEAT (7328), logging onto

Jimmy Lange Set to Fight November 1, 2008 at Patriot Center

Popular Northern Virginia boxer returns after 17 month layoff

FAIRFAX, VA (August 18, 2008) — After being sidelined with an injury over the last 17 months, popular Northern Virginia boxer Jimmy Lange (28-3-2, 20 KOs) will return to action by headlining a live, professional boxing card on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia.  The event, produced by Ice Promotions and headed by Jackie “First Lady of Boxing” Kallen, marks the fighter’s sixth appearance at his hometown venue.

Lange has fully recovered from surgery to a shoulder injury that occurred in the first round of his May 12, 2007 World Boxing Council (WBC) Continental America’s 154-pound title fight against Fontaine Cabell.  Due to his inability to box during the long layoff, Lange voluntarily relinquished his championship belt which is now held by Julio César Chávez Jr., oldest son of legendary three-time world champion Julio César Chávez, who won the title in an elimination bout on February 9, 2008.

“I look forward to regaining the momentum from my last fight and continuing my quest to become a world champion,” said Lange.  “I feel physically stronger than ever, fully recovered from the surgery and ready to step back into the ring at the Patriot Center this fall.”

Next month Lange heads down to Vero Beach, Florida to begin his regular, six-week boxing training session with head trainer James “Buddy” McGirt in preparation for the November 1st fight.

Lange’s opponent has not yet been secured for the fight card which will feature five to six additional bouts.

A native of Arlington, Virginia and a Bishop O’Connell High School graduate, Lange has headlined all five professional boxing events at the Patriot Center on the George Mason University campus, including the sport’s debut at the arena on September 17, 2005.  The junior middleweight drew national attention as a participant on the first season (2005) of the NBC boxing reality program, The Contender, and possesses an impressive 28-3-2 (20 KOs) record.

Jimmy Lange-Hosted Boxing Benefit Raises $5,170 for Family of Diego Corrales

World Boxing Council (WBC) continental Americas super welterweight champion Jimmy Lange today announced that $5,170 was raised and will be distributed to the family of the late world champion Diego “Chico” Corrales as a result of last month’s benefit event hosted by the popular Northern Virginia contender..

I’m truly proud that we raised more than $5,000 to help Diego Corrales’ family,” said Lange of the Saturday night program that combined entertainment and philanthropy with a live boxing card. “My fans have been extremely loyal and generous in support of everything I do. I’m extremely grateful for everyone that helped organize and participate in the event. I want to personally thank Gary Shaw, Chico’s promoter, who was instrumental in putting us in touch with Michelle (Diego’s wife) and her children. We hope our small token of appreciation helps the family during the holiday season.”

A hometown title defense in the spring 2008 is next up for Lange who captured the 154-pound title in an impressive, hard-fought rematch over Fontaine Cabell last May. The Patriot Center, where the native Northern Virginian has enjoyed enthusiastic, hometown crowd support en route to a 3-1-1 record over the past two years, has been reserved for Saturday, March 29, 2008. Further details, including an opponent and ticket information, will be announced in the near future.

Jimmy Lange to Host Benefit for Diego Corrales October 6 at Hilton McLean Tysons Corner

Tickets now on sale for event featuring four bouts.

McLean, Va. — Popular Northern Virginia fighter Jimmy Lange will host a special evening of boxing and entertainment to benefit the family of deceased former world champion Diego Corrales on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. The event, a joint production between Jimmy Lange Enterprises and Ice Promotions, will feature professional boxing, live musical entertainment, a three-course meal and a silent auction.

Tickets are limited for this intimate affair with table seats (includes three-course dinner) available for $350, $250 or $175; with a limited number of general admission tickets selling for $100. Fans can purchase tickets by calling (703) 536-6060.

Lange (28-3-2, 20 KOs), who captured the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Continental America’s 154-pound title against Fontaine Cabell last May, sparred with Corrales in Florida at trainer Buddy McGirt’s Vero Beach gym several years ago where he developed a great deal of respect for the battle-tested warrior.

“Chico was one of the few modern boxers who, win or lose, always left everything out there at the end of the day.  He had a tremendous heart and was a great crowd-pleaser who gave 100-percent every time in the ring,” said Lange, about Corrales, who died on May 7, 2007, is survived by his wife, Michelle, and was the father of six children, including a son, Diego, born in June 2007. “I look forward to honoring him on October 6 and helping raise funds for his family.”

A cocktail hour starts at 6:00 pm with doors opening at 7:00 pm.  Entertainment will be provided by Emil Stucchio & The Classics, whose popular songs include "Till Then," "P.S. I Love You" and "You'll Never Know".

Matchmaker Joe Hensley promises an exciting four-bout fight card, including a hard-hitting, six-round showdown between undefeated cruiserweight “JC Superstar” Juan Carlos Robles (9-0, 4 KOs) of Waynesboro, Va., and dangerous William “The Storm” Bailey (7-12-2, 4 KOs) of Portsmouth, Va.  Former D.C. resident Charles Norwood (2-1, 1 KO) of Roanoke, Va. There will be three other bouts on this benefit card to raise money for the family of Diego Corrales. Charlottsville, VA middleweight George "War Time" Rivera battles Portsmouth's John "JT" Terry. Rivera (4-1, two KO's) is coming off a four-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Lawrence Jones on August 25 in Springfield, VA. Terry (2-6, one KO) is trying to break a five-bout losing streak. Both of Terry's wins came in visits to the area as he defeated out-of-towners Michael Dickerson and James Shedrick in consecutive bouts at BXF Gym in Millersville in 2005.

Making his pro debut on this card will be Baltimore featherweight Angelo Ward. Ward, a former Golden Glove champion, will take on James "Boo" Franks of Norfolk, VA (2-3, two KO's).

Rounding out the card will be Roanoke, VA's "The Freak of Nature" Charles Norwood (originally from DC — 2-1, one KO) taking on Baltimore's Ron "The Rock" Reaves (2-0, one KO.)

Update on "JC Superstar" Juan Carlos Robles.

Robles, who was scheduled to make his first in-ring appearance since suffering injuries in a motorcycle accident, hurt his foot in a freak accident, stepping down wrong off of a curb. Robles was slated to take on Portsmouth VA's William "The Storm" Bailey on the October 6 card.

Matchmaker Joe Hensley plans to put another bout on this card. The rest of the card remains intact.

Lange Scores TKO at The Patriot Center!

Fairfax, VA — Showing his fearless courage and trademark heart, Jimmy Lange scored an eight-round TKO of Fontaine Cabell in their highly-anticipated rematch to capture the previously vacant World boxing Council (WBC) Continental America’s 154-pound title in front of 4,382 jubilant hometown fans at the Patriot Center on Saturday night.

Unlike their first match, held in Fairfax last December, Lange and Cabell went toe-to-toe from the opening bell with the local favorite jumping in front and winning round one.  However, Cabell, a Staten Island, NY, native now residing in Orlando, FL, employed the same attacking-strategy and didn’t back down from the Lange onslaught and launched his own flurry of jabs and counters that often rocked Lange over the next few rounds.

Despite some visual bruising to Lange’s face, the season one “Contender” star continued his relentless pursuit and seemed to take control in the sixth round after Cabell absorbed a barrage of body punches throughout the first five rounds.  With a renewed confidence, Lange went to work in the seventh round, connecting with a shower of devastating body blows and solid jabs that led to a knockdown.  Seizing the moment, Lange stormed out of his corner in the eighth round to continue his assault on the visibly shaken Cabell until referee Joe Cooper stepped in and stopped the fight at 0:55.

The championship victory improved Lange’s record to 28-3-2, 20 KOs, while Cabell fell to 21-7-2, 16 KOs.

Lange Captures WBC Continental Americas Title!

 Article by Gary "Digital" Williams

http://boxingalongthebeltway.blogspot.com/

It took heart, guts and ability, but Great Falls, VA junior middleweight Jimmy Lange won the vacant WBC Continental Americas Super Welterweight title with an eighth-round TKO over Fontaine Cabell in front of a very excited crowd at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.

This was a solid performance by Lange, who came out aggressive from the opening bell. Cabell also deserves a lot of credit for trying to match Lange's aggressiveness. Cabell gave as good as he took for the first six rounds, but Lange eventually wore him down.

The end actually started in the seventh round when Lange dropped Cabell with a vicious right hand with 10 seconds to go in the round. Cabell survived but succumbed 55 seconds into the eighth round thanks to the Lange pressure.

Lange is now 28-3-2, 20 KO's while Cabell is 22-7-2, 17 KO's.
